If you’ve ever seen someone else buy a train ticket for the exact same journey as you but pay less because they had a Railcard you might have been left wondering ‘what is a Railcard?’ and ‘how can I get one?’ It doesn’t matter if you’re going for a night out or heading somewhere nice for the weekend, no one likes to pay more than they have to.
Plus, we now have a 16-17 Saver. Like a Railcard but with bigger discounts for anyone aged 16 or 17.
What are the different Railcards?
The Railcards available include:
- 16-25 Railcard
- Two Together Railcard
- Family & Friends Railcard
- Senior Railcard
- Disabled Persons Railcard
- Network Railcard
- 26-30 Railcard
All types of Railcards allow you to purchase a train ticket at a reduced rate, typically 1/3 off the price of an adult fare and 60% off a kid’s fare (for Family & Friends Railcard and Network Railcard only). However, different Railcards have different eligibility criteria so you’ll have to check whether you qualify before you apply. Some Railcards can be used anytime but others can only be used outside of peak times.
