London Living Wage employer, Waltham Forest Council is looking for a bright and ambitious intern to work in its exciting policy team. They will be responsible for developing council-wide policy and providing support to our newly formed Strategic Innovation Unit which is focused on four urgent areas for action: violent crime, communities, climate change and poverty.

The policy team and new Strategic Innovation Unit is highly influential in developing a range of policies and strategies that will have a lasting and positive impact on our communities and the serious issues of violent crime, climate change and poverty.
To deliver monitoring and evaluation for Waltham Forest Council's Policy and Design team and Strategic Innovation Unit.
Based in vibrant Walthamstow the intern will play vital roles in the delivery of innovative change. Working with services across the council, the unit aims to enable a genuine cross-departmental and multi-disciplinary approach to each issue, leading to insightful and impactful interventions.
Key tasks will include:
Collect, analyse and present robust data in a variety of formats. Contribute to the design and delivery of data collection methodologies. Analyse and discuss qualitative and quantitative data to identify key learning and recommendations. Share these findings and recommendations with team members and wider Council colleagues. Work with key partners to ensure external data and insight is accessed. Lead on reporting internally and to ensure reporting deadlines are met. Work with colleagues from multiple disciplines across the council. Provide advice and make recommendations based on up to date knowledge and analysis / evaluation of information. Manage escalated or complex customer issues within the relevant area. Contribute to the development of service plans to meet strategic business goals. Research developments in relevant area. Collate process and analyse information / data. Translate outputs into advisory reports / documents / actions as appropriate. Lead on the development, implementation, maintenance and management of systems, policies, procedures and / or standards within area of responsibility. Work closely with others to support/Manage the development and delivery of improvements in processes and procedures. Prepare and present a full range of reports (both standard and non-standard) covering area of responsibility. Manage a portfolio of Projects and Reviews. Lead on specific projects as required. Co-operate with and support colleagues. Act in accordance with all policies and procedures, which apply to the job and understand the reasons for this. Carry out all duties and responsibilities with reasonable care for the health and safety of self and others and report any potential hazards or unsafe practices to line manager.The Candidate

Excellent analytical skills with an eye for detail, and the ability to develop insights and provide evidence-based findings. Ability to monitor and maintain systems for gathering and analysing complex data. Willingness to work evenings and weekends on events, as and when required. Strong numeracy skills. Experience of evaluating the impact of projects, programmes or services Experience of working with a range of partner organisations to fulfil the requirements of your role. Experience utilising primary and secondary research tools and techniques for the purposes of consultation, research and analysis, i.e. preparing and analysing questionnaires, undertaking qualitative research, and reviewing and analysing secondary data for quality and relevance. Excellent and proven research skills, including qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Experience of collecting and reporting monitoring data
